Safety & trust
Participation, consent & boundaries.
Feeling safe is what makes surrender possible. Tantric Dance is a close, full-body partner dance, so clear agreements matter. These are the official Tantric Dance guidelines, as taught by Tantra School NL.
1.Touch and your boundaries
Touch is a natural part of Tantric Dance. You are always in charge of your own boundaries. You can say no, ask for less contact, adjust how you're held, or stop at any moment, and every no is respected without question. Learning to feel and express your yes and your no is part of the practice.
2.Stopping the dance
There are two simple signals, one for each role. Either partner can use theirs at any moment, for any reason, and no explanation is ever needed.
- If you're leading
- Gently tap your partner's hand. This lets them know you're bringing the dance to a close, or that you'd like to pause.
- If you're receiving (eyes closed)
- Bring your hands together in prayer position at your heart (Namaste). Your partner will stop straight away and gently let go.
When either signal is given, the dance ends with care. You can then take a moment, lift your blindfold, find a new partner, or step out. If you'd like support, a helper is always close by.
We practise both signals together at the start of every session, so everyone knows them before the first dance begins.
3.Dancing with eyes closed
When you receive, you dance blindfolded and won't know who your partner is — unless you and your partner have chosen to stay together for the evening. When you lead, you choose a blindfolded partner to dance with. This is part of the practice: it lets you feel rather than judge. You can lift your blindfold or stop at any time.
4.The rules of the dance
- Respect each other's body, space and mind.
- Do not touch each other's sexual body parts.
- Dances are with clothes on.
- No talking during dancing.
- Stop the dance when this is indicated.
- Tell the teacher about any medical conditions before the session.
- Tantric Dance is not a sexual practice and not a therapy group.
5.Before you come
- Arrive clean, without perfume, cigarette smoke or other strong scents.
- Leave jewellery at home, especially large earrings.
- Wear flexible clothes you can move in. Short skirts aren't advised.
- Come with a clear mind: no alcohol or drugs, and let us know about any medication that affects you.
- You are responsible for your own body. Be loving with yourself and others.
6.Expected behaviour
Behaviour that ignores these agreements or makes others feel unsafe means being asked to leave.
7.Confidentiality
What others share in circle stays in the room. Speak about your own experience, not anyone else's.
8.Reporting concerns
Speak to the facilitator during the event, or contact us afterwards at [contact email / phone]. Every concern is taken seriously.
9.Access and health needs
Please tell us about any access needs, disabilities or health conditions when booking, so we can talk it through with you and make sure the session works for you. Venue access details: [per-venue information].
10.Not a substitute for therapy
Tantric Dance is a movement practice. It does not replace therapy, medical treatment or professional mental health support.
